The Latino Newsletter Featured in the New York Times
It was nice to see, even though the circumstances as to why were a bit chilling at first
Hey, all. I know it's the weekend, a time to rest and recharge, but I had to share the lovely news that The Latino Newsletter and I were featured in a New York Times story on Friday about how some nonprofits responded to the news of the [email protected] email signing up for newsletters like ours.
I was able to share what had happened to us on January 22:
Has this happened to anyone else who has a newsletter or journalism subscriber sign-up model? Would love to know.

Looks like @LatNewsletter is getting attention. Time to tighten up the process even more. Whole thing is wild.
It could have been someone trying the "report" us to gov't or someone who wants to spam gov't.
We have chosen to not play around. This is serious work.

Here is what the story said about us:
At The Latino Newsletter, a small nonprofit news outlet, the executive director Julio Ricardo Varela said it was chilling at first to see there had been four attempts to add [email protected] to the mailing list. But then he saw from where the tries had come: San Antonio, Phoenix and a mobile phone in London.
“This can’t be the federal government,” he said. “I was trolled. Let’s move on. I’ve got to publish the next newsletter.”
A nice way to start a new month.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
Julio
