A founding tenet of The Latino Newsletter is to uplift and amplify the work from the community. Starting today, thanks to the support from Justice For Migrant Women, we will be featuring “The Humans Who Feed Us” narrative and portrait project throughout the 2024 holiday season and into the new year.

Created by my good friend Mónica Ramírez, the founder and president of Justice for Migrant Women, the project was made possible in conjunction with a fellowship with the Butterfly Lab for Immigrant Narrative Strategy (an initiative established by Race Forward).

Working with the team at Justice for Migrant Women and Ingrid Hoffmann (celebrity celebrity, TV personality, author, and entrepreneur), the project was scaled nationally in November 2021 after the original pilot launched in August 2021. The initiative features the unique stories of essential immigrant workers in different parts of the food supply chain, including farmers, farmworkers, dairy, poultry, restaurant, and grocery workers, to showcase their contributions to our food system and day-to-day lives.

In this season of big meals and celebrations in the United States, The Latino Newsletter invites you to learn more about “The Humans Who Feed Us.” The portrait exhibit will continue in 2025 in places where food is served and sold, from restaurants to universities.

On a personal note, I have known Mónica since I founded Latino Rebels in 2011. In fact, if you are an original fan of Latino Rebels Radio, Mónica and I were co-hosts when the show first premiered on BlogTalk Radio in 2014.

The Latino Newsletter is proud to work with Mónica and her team to shed a light on a topic that deserves even more attention in the mainstream.

Don’t Blame Latinos: María Teresa Kumar of Voto Latino penned a Friday opinion piece for U.S. News & World Report called “Don’t Blame Latinos for Kamala Harris’ Loss.”

“Those of us working on the ground know the real story: The poor turnout for Democrats was due in large part to campaigns and donors —especially at the national level— neglecting to support grassroots organizing, which is fundamental to energizing any base and winning elections,” Kumar writes at one point.
