Today is a historic day in The Latino Newsletter’s startup journey, now in its 45th week.
If you’ve been with us since last May, you might remember that we were among the inaugural members of the Latino Media Consortium, co-founded by the fabulous Lucy Flores and Amanda Zamora. In fact, Lucy and Amanda, both good friends, joined me during season one of our podcast to talk about why the LMC is so necessary right now.
As one of the original members of the LMC (the full list is here), The Latino Newsletter has seen firsthand how hard Lucy and Amanda have worked to build something spectacular. Today, all that hard work has paid off, with the announcement of a new Latino Media Content Hub.
According to our friends at the LMC, this initiative rethinks how independent Latino media can work together to reach more people with timely, relevant coverage. Built in partnership between the LMC and Distributed Media Lab, the Latino Media Content Hub delivers curated stories across a network of participating outlets.
It launches today with a focus on immigration, aiming to inform, engage, and support communities navigating a complex and often hostile environment.
The initial feed features original reporting from member outlets, including Conecta Arizona, El Tecolote, Enlace Latino NC, Luz Media, Pulso, and The Latino Newsletter. Backed by URL Media with funding from the Knight Foundation, this collaborative coverage will reach Latino audiences in California, Arizona, Texas, Puerto Rico, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Florida, New York, Illinois, and beyond.
Unlike traditional syndication models, the Latino Media Content Hub is built for collaboration and sustainability. Each reported story is designed to be embedded across multiple sites while preserving the original source and ensuring credit. This approach not only extends the reach of Latino-led reporting but also creates new opportunities for visibility and revenue across the independent media ecosystem.
You will find the feed for the Latino Media Content Hub here on The Latino Newsletter in two places:
Right on our front page in the right sidebar
At this link: The Latino Media Content Hub (also on the Content Hub tab on our home page)
In addition, our own stories for the first phase of the Latino Media Content Hub —the immigration feed— will originate from our new San Juan bureau.
We’re excited to bring coverage rooted in Puerto Rico to the wider network, expanding the reach of reporting that centers our communities and context.
It’s been a while since we provided you with an update about our 2025 online donations, and we have great news to share. We just surpassed $15,000, which is 75% of our target goal!
We want to keep The Latino Newsletter accessible without paywalls. To help, you can donate here. Any amount (one-time or monthly) will keep us going.
