This afternoon, we reached a milestone that feels monumental for a small nonprofit startup like us: 100 donors. For some organizations, that might not seem like a big number, but for The Latino Newsletter, it means everything. Every single person who has chosen to support this work has done more than just donate—they’ve invested in a vision.

When I started this project back in May 2024, I just had this idea: a space where daily, premium journalism about Latinos, by Latinos, could thrive. But big ideas don’t pay the bills. It takes an entire infrastructure to make something like this work. We need tools, time, and trust. That’s why today’s milestone is more than just a number. It’s proof that this idea resonates with 100 other people who decided to financially support us.

We wouldn’t be here without the support and guidance of our fiscal sponsor, Tiny News Collective. Their tools made it possible for us to accept donations in the first place, ensuring that a small idea could start to grow roots. And it’s not just about the tools—it’s about believing in the importance of independent, community-focused journalism and giving organizations like ours the means to make it happen.

We are also deeply grateful to the Latino Community Foundation, Hispanic Federation, and New England Public Media for their foundational funding, which allowed us to bring this vision to life and sustain our work.

This milestone reflects the collective efforts of our community. The readers who subscribe, the listeners who tune in to our podcast, the people who share our stories on social media, and the donors who support us financially have all contributed to making this vision a reality. Together, we are creating a platform that is just starting to amplify Latino and Latina voices, ensuring our stories are part of national and local conversations.

But hitting 100 donors doesn’t mean we’re stopping here. It’s a reminder of where we started and where we want to go. With 991 subscribers for TheLatinoNewsletter.org, 882 on LinkedIn, and a social media audience close to 10,000 now (hello, BlueSky!), we’re building something that’s reaching more people every day. Every new supporter gets us closer to our vision of creating a sustainable, impactful nonprofit media outlet that serves Latino communities across the country.

So, to our 100 donors, thank you for believing in this work, for trusting us with your hard-earned money, and for being part of this journey.

And if you’re reading this and thinking about joining them, now’s a great time. We’re just getting started, and there’s so much more we can do together.

And as I was about to hit publish on this, we got news of donor 101! With their support, we’ve raised $9,083 so far. If you’re inspired to join this growing community of supporters, you can donate here at this link.

Have a restful weekend. I know next week will feel uncertain and at times, intense. There is a lot happening, and we will do our best to stay true to our mission.

Peace, y’all.
