In partnership with

BOSTON  The Latino Newsletter and El Planeta, Boston’s leading Spanish-language news outlet, today announced an editorial partnership designed to enhance access to civic information for Massachusetts’ Latino residents — a population central to the state’s demographic and economic future.

Latinos represent nearly one in five residents in Boston and approximately 13.5% of the Commonwealth’s population, contributing significantly to the growth of municipalities statewide. Since 2014, the Latino workforce has expanded by 49%, adding more than 148,000 jobs across key sectors and generating over $30 billion in statewide economic growth.

“This partnership ensures that local news reflects the people who increasingly shape Massachusetts’ progress,” said Julio Ricardo Varela, Founder, Publisher & Executive Director of The Latino Newsletter. “By delivering reporting in both English and Spanish, we are eliminating barriers to access while elevating a fuller, more representative civic narrative.”

Under the collaboration, The Latino Newsletter will publish original English-language reporting that El Planeta will adapt and publish for Spanish-speaking audiences — reinforcing equity and reach across public-service journalism. With Latinos contributing roughly 84% of the state’s recent net population growth, the need for strong, culturally responsive reporting is widely recognized across the Commonwealth.

The partnership launches with a joint interview with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, published simultaneously on December 3, and featured on The Latino Newsletter podcast on December 5.

“Access to trustworthy local news is essential for any community, and for Massachusetts’ Latino residents it is a matter of equity and representation,” says Javier Marin, Founder and Executive Chairman of Tiempo Company, publisher of El Planeta. “This partnership ensures that our growing community is seen, heard, and informed in the languages we live in every day.”

Throughout 2026, The Latino Newsletter and El Planeta will co-produce bilingual reporting that uplifts community voices, sustains civic accountability, and reflects the dynamic role Latinos play in shaping a more inclusive Commonwealth.
