
Mauro Morales retired in January 2025 after 25 years of federal service, most recently as Staff Director of the United States Commission on Civil Rights, where he served for more than a decade. During the Obama Administration, he was detailed to the Office of Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and served as a special advisor to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) on workforce diversity and inclusion. From 2009 to 2014, he was a senior attorney advisor in OPM’s Office of the General Counsel. Before federal service, Morales founded The Morales Law Group in 2006 and served as managing partner until 2009. He has also worked as general counsel and director of public affairs for Verches Associates, general counsel for Lambco Engineering, and chief of staff for Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez. Earlier in his career, he served as a legislative assistant for Congressman Esteban Torres and worked for the Orange County District Attorney’s Office. Morales earned a B.S. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from the University of Southern California, and he is licensed to practice law in Washington, D.C., and California.
