Ok, on to today’s podcast episode.

Episode 17: Trump’s Latino Plan

Jorge Bonilla is a Latino conservative writer and radio personality I have known for years. During that time, we have had a few conversations about Latinos and electoral politics. The tone of those discussions has been one of respect and mutual understanding.

This week, I invited Jorge to the show, and I appreciated his time and insights. Jorge shared a lot (including why Export Soda crackers are smaller these days) and also said this about how some Latinos who supported Trump are downplaying mass deportation policies: “I don't think that [the Trump administration is] going to start with the people that came here in the 90’s and in the 2000’s that came over here from Mexico. You have criminals. You have people who actually have active deportation orders. You have a bunch of unvetted individuals who entered the country over the past four years, and I think that is where these things are going to begin.”

“I don't think that there's going to be —and I could be wrong on this, and if I'm wrong, I have the humility to say that I was wrong— but I don't think they're going to go immediately after mixed-status families unless there's somebody with either an active deportation order or a convicted felon or a criminal something like that. That's my sense,” he added.
